Talkie Tuesdays: From Beyond (1986)

Talkie Tuesdays: From Beyond (1986)

In celebration of Halloween, I am recommending From Beyond for this week’s talkie. It is a horror/sci-fi movie, but one from the ’80s, i.e. not scary. The film is based off a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, who authored it in 1920. Unfortunately, it came to be a pretty terrible movie but in a way that is fairly humorous. Even though it is not scary, I would definitely not watch this with children or conservatives, as there is some questionable adult content. To be completely honest, I don’t like today’s scary movies because they are too reliant on loud noises and startling the viewer via killers popping out of places. Even though it works, it seems cheap and overdone. Anyway, you can check out From Beyond on Hulu for free.

Talkie Tuesdays: Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away 3D

Talkie Tuesdays: Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away 3D

Out in theaters December 21st, 2012. It is a fantasy film featuring the famous Oh-my-god-did-they-just-do-that circus. On its team is Andrew Adamson of Shrek and the Chronicles of Narnia series and James Cameron of Titanic and Avatar. Needless to say, this movie will probably be pretty epic and will take a pretty epic-sized screen to do it justice. The bad news is that its release will be limited. Why do you do this to us?

Talkie Tuesdays: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Talkie Tuesdays: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Coming to theaters December 14th, 2012. The trilogy was brilliant and this film is also directed by the one and only Peter Jackson. I’m a sucker for good CGI’s. I think it will be a nice competitor for The Great Gatsby, also coming out around that time.

Talkie Tuesdays: Lip Service

Talkie Tuesdays: Lip Service

This show, made up of two seasons so far, is the Scottish answer to The L Word. It is different, though I can’t quite place how… Maybe darker and less dramatic? Word isn’t out yet on whether or not there will be a season (series) 3. Anywho, one of the main actresses is Ruta Gedmintas, who also starred in The Tudors. Check it out. Both seasons can be seen on Hulu.
